The seaside town is layered with queer histories from the iconic Luna Park and Prince Hotel which hosted numerous clubs and events including Pokey’s, Pennies, Girl Bar, OutBlack to cafes such as Val Eastwoods Café 31 and at a venue in Acland St, the meeting place of the Daughters of Bilitis can lay claim to being Australia’s first openly gay organisation. The Australian Queer Archives has for many years been conducting tours and walking the streets of Melbourne sharing these queer histories and with the Archives now located within the Victorian Pride Centre in Fitzroy Street - we are excited to be able to conduct these tours of the local neighbourhood.
