Following a soldout season from The Old 505 Theatre in Sydney, This Genuine Moment is coming to the La Mama Courthouse in Carlton.

The story follows ‘R’ as he wakes up on Christmas eve next to ‘L’ - a man he doesn’t know the name of. R has never done this before, and L has done this one too many times. As they piece together their apparent one night stand, R reveals his plan to ‘come out’ to his family at Christmas, and for the next hour, the conversation turns through topics of family, social media, sexuality, and a touch of chlamydia. It all begins to unravel as both R and L confront the need for the truth, not just from each other, but also from themselves.

A new queer play that asks how much easier is it to be honest with someone we don’t know, than ourselves? Jacob Parker has written a funny experience that we all know. But this time, you’re not running away from it.

‘This was one of the most human moments I’ve ever experienced in a theatre, and will very likely have a spot in my top 5 for the year.’ - Abbie Gallagher, Theatre Travels

‘Parker has crafted an honest, funny, not always satisfying, but thoroughly engaging play. The story can’t always go the way we want it to, just as ‘L’ and ‘R’ know only too well. But it is what they don’t know - about the world, about each other, and about themselves - that makes this work interesting.’ -Erin Middleton, State of the Art

‘This play was raw, intimate, and beautifully executed, and if you were lucky enough to be in the sold-out presence...you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.’ - Mary Ali, FIB Theatre Review
